Saturday Dec 1

Yikes! It's December again...2008 here I come. So I just gave this homepage a slight facelift. The layout on the right side has changed a bit. I'm going to try this new format for a while and see how it goes. Let me know what you think if you have any opinion. I'm trying to show you the new work immediately and in a good sized thumbnail. Those two black skull santas are FREE wallpapers for your desktop. Download them and be cooler than Fonzy.

Saturday Nov 17

Just posted a new drawing titled "Masturbation Love Sex Drugs". Why that subject? Why that title? Why the hell not?

....................................

Monday November 12

Posted two new works; "Kitty Smoke" and "Scale". "Kitty Smoke" was for some friends as a house warming present. I even framed it. I'm such a trooper.

And "Scale" is my submission for IllustrationFriday.com this week. Take a look. There's also a link to the blog I'm posting them on so if you want to post comments please feel free to do so.

....................................

Sunday November 4

Just added a new illustration to the gallery. I've decided to start participating in IllustrationFriday.com's weekly topics. And if you don't know what that is....every Friday they announce a new topic. Anyone can illustrate something for that topic and submit their entry. An illustration is randomly chosen as "pick of the week".

It's a good way to get your art out there and a very good way to motivate yourself to not only create more art but to focus on a particular topic. I've found that is sometimes the hardest part.

Saturday November 3

Well, I finished the first stage of the "13 days of horror" project. The pencil roughs are done, they are yet to be inked. But I'm working on that.

I also just posted a NEW CONTEST. Provide a funny caption for the picture provided. Whoever makes me laugh 'til my larynx swells wins a free t-shirt.

D.O.G.

I saw the new Halloween movie. Not too bad. The kid's a bit creepy, which certainly helps. I suggest going to see a late show and then walking home by yourself in the dark....

Someday I'll get more art posted on here. I've just been really busy with client projects. Which reminds me...you can now watch the bicycle documentary that I did the animation in for Paul Hake Productions.. It's posted on the website here:
http://www.enjoytheridebybike.com/
When you get to the site click the link on the right that says "Enjoy the Ride" video.

We also recently did a marketing campaign and designed an interactive web page where you can drag different clothes onto Hakes' body and then print the results when you're finished. It turned out pretty good. Thanks to T. Vo for doing the programming.

I just added 2 more drawings to the "Children of the Soft Machine" series. You really need to check them out if you haven't yet. I even put in a little write up for each drawing so you have an idea of why each drawing ended up as it did, or why......anyway, take a look, it's worth it! Here's my current new favorite for the moment.

And thanks to all who showed up last Monday for the screening of "Enjoy the Ride in the Connecticut River Valley" which contained some cool animation created by yours truly. I'm going to be adding the animation to my site pretty soon. And if you want to see the 30 second psa for the video you can visit the website (which I also created!) by clicking here.

Wednesday, May 8

Ok so I've finally added some more art to the gallery. More of the series I'm still working on entitled "Children of the Soft Machine". It's a collection of figure studies from open studio drawing sessions that I try to get to at least once a week. As you may have guessed they are not "traditional" style figure drawings. I enjoy using the poses of the models as a base for softer, more liquid poses created using my pencils and paper. Bending, pouring the flesh, reshaping...this is what I'm good at. Think anatomy class on acid and you've got something similar to these new works. Check them out. Oh yeah, they're for sale too.

Sunday, March 11

Sitting here about to update my site and looking at this page, I realize that the "poem" I wrote below ( on Thursday, Feb 22) should be in the first person. It's me........I go to sleep and wake up, and I lose track of what I want, and I forget why I'm here.

I'm trying to wake up, to stay grounded. Swimming around in my Pisces mind......scatterfish.....

Speaking of which, I added a new desktop image. A blue person. Maybe liquid, maybe glass. See it on the right side of this page. Click it, download it for free. Put it on your desktop as a background. Or click here to check it out.

Oh yeah, don't forget to try and win a FREE t-shirt:

Ok, so I just had a birthday. Happy Birthday to me. It was ok. Family and a great friend made it cool. And then I was digging around for my darn Adobe Elements cd cuz my pdf creation has been put to a halt for some reason.....and I came across this postcard that I had written on the back of. I forgot I had written it, but I really like what it says. It is as follows, and I leave you with it:

There's a reason they say "Life is a gift"

If we're not on our guards we just cruise

We go to sleep

We wake up

We go to sleep

We wake up

We lose track of what it is that we want

We forget why we're here and what our talents are

And we get paid for our 9 to 5

We sleep while we color in the thick black lines

And we walk right by our creations

It's time to step forward and see who we are

It's time to become our inner God

:: RECENT PROJECT: 13 DAYS OF HORROR, a brief explanation ::

First of all let me say you can view these drawings by clicking on the images shown below, at the end of this little write-up. Please keep in mind some of these are only the pencil roughs.

As some of you may know I decided to do a project I titled "13 Days of Horror" in which I drew one drawing every day from October 19th through the 31st. It was my way of honoring the horror and macabre genre.

For this project I strictly did stream of consciousness drawing; meaning I did not pre-plan any of the drawings. I just grabbed a piece of paper and a pencil (or in some cases, ink, some water, and a brush ) and started creating. Keeping only the idea of horror and the macabre in mind and listening to fairly heavy "metal" style music. Much of the music came from my own collection but I also streamed some DeathFM via WinAmp/Shoutcast. They play stuff that's so heavy you generally can't understand a word anyone is yelling, so the lyrics were not a distraction to me.

Overall I'm pleased with the works that came from the project. I'm a bit disappointed with myself in missing a day but I just had too much going on that day. Oh well.

As I said, these were stream of consciousness drawings. I would start drawing and see what happened, then work with that. Rearrange, erase, shuffle, take a step back, add more. I occasionally surprised myself with some of what came out but decided to use it and try to add more to make it seem even more disturbing, more unsettling. After all, it's the 13 Days of Horror!

I'll be inking these in between some other projects I'm working on. I think most of these will end up looking quite intense.
